Review by the BETTING SCHOOL
Published May 2007
David Peat's horse profiles are a breakdown of the past performance
of about 160 horses. Each profile gives you a breakdown of how that
horse has performed over different distances, ground conditions, in
different classes, on different courses and in different field sizes.
Also if there is a particular jockey that the horse goes well for
this is detailed as well. Additionally a positive and a negative
profile is detailed for each horse, along with a summary note of when
the horse performs best.
What these profiles do is to provide you with additional information
that you can use to determine the strength or otherwise of a bet that
you are considering. Or the profiles can be used as a starting point
when assessing a race.
For example let's say your favourite tipster has recommended that you
back a horse called Stronghold in a 15 runner race on ground that is
good to soft but that might possibly turn soft during the course of that day.
If you check the profile for this horse you can straight away see
that Stronghold has only ever won one race where there were more than
nine runners and has only won one race where the going was good to
soft and has never won on soft going. Its record in races with eight
or less runners is 11121. Info like this could save you a losing bet.
The service I have been looking at this month is the Horse Profiles
email service. This service provides a daily email detailing which
profiled horses are running on the day along with the authors view on
whether they are contenders. Along with a shortlist of horses from
which the author expects to make his bet.
As well as the daily email there is a weekly diary that reviews the
previous weeks' racing highlighting the performance of horses from
the book and previous diaries.
This is not a tipping service as such, although it will point you
towards winning selections. But, in my opinion, is more an additional
and useful source of data for the form student, provided along with
the opinions and comments from somebody who has an expert level of
understanding of horse racing patterns. Unfortunately I was unable to
make a profit during April, but it was a close run thing and I backed
a couple of good priced winners along the way (8/1 & 12/1) as well as
shorter ones. I can definitely see the value of the service and will
continue to use the book to help with my own selections.
